The Carbon Desktop ‘Spotlight’ demonstrates the great work of Carbon Desktop users and allows them to share their energy saving projects.
This month we would like to report on the fantastic success of Danish Crown’s site in Bugle.
Over the past 12 months, Colin Sleeman, Engineering Manager and his team have set out to optimise their factory. The results have been truly outstanding. In the first four months of this year, Colin and his team have been able to reduce whole site electricity consumption by 19.5% despite a 6% increase in throughput over the same period. This equates to an annual cost saving of more than £200k.

The site has had numerous initiatives such as the gradual upgrade of lighting. But, the step change in performance has been linked to improving the control and operation of the energy intensive plant items such as vacuum pumps and refrigeration equipment. The team have really focussed on building in automatic control that either turns off the equipment, or the demand for the equipment when not in use. This has seen the typical weekend and night-time consumption drop by more than 30%.
Colin Sleeman, Engineering Manager at Danish Crown’s Bugle site comments: “Not only has this process delivered real financial benefit to the business, it has also provided an opportunity to up-skill my team. Seeing the savings delivered gives real satisfaction.”
